GenerateBlocks and Kadence Blocks don’t appear as separate rows because they build on the block editor, which does. Breakdance isn’t included in this dataset. And these are correlations across millions of independently built sites, not lab tests.
The Admin Bar Study: 150+ Live Agency Sites (March 2025)
Median mobile Lighthouse scores on professionally built sites: GenerateBlocks 90, Oxygen 82, Bricks 77, Kadence 76, Beaver Builder 70, Gutenberg 69, Elementor 66 and Divi 62. The Alternatives, One by One
GenerateBlocks
A small set of flexible blocks that work inside the native WordPress editor, usually paired with the GeneratePress theme. It had the highest median score in The Admin Bar study. Pros: very little code on the page, content saved as standard WordPress blocks, a mature and conservative development approach. Kadence Blocks
Also built on the block editor, with more ready-made blocks than GenerateBlocks: tabs, accordions, forms, galleries and more. Usually paired with the Kadence theme. Pros: the easiest transition for Elementor users who like having components ready to drop in, standard WordPress blocks underneath. The Native Block Editor
WordPress’s own editor with no builder plugin at all. Pros: nothing extra to install, maintained by WordPress itself, and in the field data above it performs close to the top across more than 900,000 sites. Cons: layout and design controls are still limited on their own, which is exactly the gap GenerateBlocks and Kadence Blocks fill.
Bricks
Bricks is fast, and the data says so: it tops the field data table above. It’s under very active development, with version 2.4.1 released on September 22, 2026. Pros: strong performance, powerful tools for developers, a visual builder experience. Cons: Bricks is a theme and builder in one, it stores layouts in its own format rather than as standard WordPress blocks, and its results vary widely depending on who builds with it.

Breakdance
Made by Soflyy, the team behind Oxygen, and designed as the friendlier of the two. It’s actively developed, with version 2.8 in release candidate testing in June 2026, and sold as a yearly subscription. Pros: a visual experience that will feel familiar to Elementor users, with a performance focus. Cons: no large independent dataset on its real-world performance yet, and like Bricks, layouts live in its own format.

Oxygen
Oxygen is very much alive. Soflyy rebuilt it from the ground up as Oxygen 6, which now shares its foundation with Breakdance and can use Breakdance’s element add-ons. As of September 2026, the current stable release is 6.1.3, version 6.2 is in beta, and the older Oxygen Classic still receives maintenance updates. Pros: strong scores in The Admin Bar study and full control for developers. Cons: it’s built for people comfortable with code, and anyone on Oxygen Classic faces its own migration to Oxygen 6.

Beaver Builder
One of the oldest visual builders, known for stability more than for trends. Pros: solid field data, second only to Bricks in the table above, and a reputation for updates that don’t break sites.
